5 TIPS FOR A HEALTHY LIFE

At Adena Farms, we believe that a healthy diet that includes whole, natural, clean foods, gives you vitality and energy to live your life to the fullest. It’s ok though to treat yourself with a bit of chocolate or a slice of yummy cake occasionally. Just remember that the major part of our diet should be made up of balanced, nutritious foods. Here are my top 5 tips for a healthy life:

SCRATCH COOKING

Cooking from scratch is the best way to have complete control of what goes into your food. Avoiding processed foods and preparing your own meals whenever possible is key to living a healthy life.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Water is an essential to your body’s overall health. Try to drink at least 1.5 liters of water a day. Avoid soft drinks, energy drinks and drinking too much juice as these contain high amounts of sugar. If you’re a coffee lover or drink caffinated teas, remember to drink a glass of water for every cup to counteract the effects of the caffeine which depletes the water in your body. If water is not exciting enough for you, try unsweetened tea or adding fresh fruits to your water.

EAT BALANCED AND NUTRITIOUS FOODS

Make sure to eat a balanced diet that contains each of the food groups in the right proportions. Eating a variety of different foods is key to giving your body all the different nutrients it needs in order to stay healthy.

STOCK UP ON HEALTHY SNACKS

The best way to keep yourself from eating empty calories is to keep a supply of nutritious, healthy snacks. For example fresh and dried fruit, or wholesome cereal bars. TIP: When choosing a cereal bar, read the label carefully. Many bars contain additives and sweeteners. Be sure to choose the one with the least amount of ingredients and least amount of sugar.

BE ACTIVE AND GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

Being active every day and getting enough sleep every night are essential for a healthy life. Being active will help you sleep at night and getting enough sleep will help your body and brain get the rest it needs to be charged for the next day. Tip: Avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol a few hours before bed. Studies have shown that these can cause you to have an interrupted sleep.
